DASH has a rich, long-standing tradition of mutually beneficial relationships with our art and design professional neighbors. The school is surrounded by flagship fashion boutiques, fine furniture showrooms, and amazing art museums and galleries. DASH seniors enjoy many advantages of building up their resumes and expanding their professional networks ahead of their peers by becoming Academic Year Interns.
The Academic Year Internship Program is an annual two-period elective for select seniors designed to provide real life work experience as part of their school day. Students commit to report to their chosen internship provider all year. Since transportation to internship worksites is the student's own responsibility, businesses near school or home work best. Academic Year internships offer a wealth of dynamic experiential learning and are generally unpaid. Interns report either A5 and A7, or B6 and B8 (12:30 PM - 4:30 PM, every other school day).
Interested juniors identify their providers before leaving on summer break. Participation requirements include at least a 2.5 unweighted GPA, the signed recommendation of the student's design program teacher, and excellent attendance. DASH guides interested juniors through the registration process in spring soon as district registration reopens. Interns record electronic timesheets every week in the district portal, receive 2 honors credits for the course, and receive final quarterly report card grades decided by their providers.
Potential providers are welcome and encouraged to register at AYMiami.GetMyInterns.org as soon as possible. Providers must be a Florida licensed business with a SunBiz tax ID and cannot be the student's own parent. After registering, please follow the instructions to return your signed cooperative agreement to internships@dadeschools.net . Once approved, providers interview job applicants and then offer the job to their selected candidate.
