Attendance and Tardy Policy
The Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) attendance policy states
that students with too many unexcused absences or tardies may not receive a passing grade.
Absences
- Students with five or more unexcused absences in a semester course may not receive a passing grade.
- Students with ten or more unexcused absences in an annual course may not receive a passing grade.
- Students with unexcused absences will receive an “F” for work assigned during the absence.
Tardies
- Accumulated unexcused tardies may count toward the threshold for attendance review.
- A tardy is excused if events that caused the tardiness were out of the student’s control, such as a motor vehicle accident or a late bus.
Attendance
- Students are considered present if they are in class or have been excused by a teacher.
- Students are considered tardy if they arrive after attendance has been taken.
- Students who are absent or tardy without a valid excuse have an unexcused absence.
